About Us

STEMPact WV

At STEMpact WV, we believe rural Appalachian students are incredibly capable—and deserve the same access to high-quality STEM opportunities as other students.

Founded in Grant County, West Virginia, we proudly serve surrounding counties, and the greater regional area.

Our organization was created by award-winning educators Bonnie Crites and Alicen Adkins, who bring nearly 30 years of combined teaching experience and 15 years in competitive robotics. They hold state, national, and international awards and accolades in STEM education and robotics, and are passionate about empowering the next generation of innovators.

Our nonprofit offers competitive robotics and hands-on science programs to students of all backgrounds, whether in public, private, charter, micro, homeschool, or virtual school.

We also support all educators—traditional/formal, informal, and parents/guardians with the tools and confidence needed to lead their students with success in STEM.

Our work reaches beyond impact—it’s a STEMpact, empowering students, educators, and families to explore, learn, and lead for generations to come.

Where We’re Located & How We Work

Our in-person services are at STEMpact WV Headquarters, located at 80 Stratus Drive, Cabins, WV. While our headquarters is based in a private residence, the insured space is dedicated to STEMpact WV programs and equipped for safe, effective, and engaging robotics training.

Our leadership team is actively seeking a more permanent facility to accommodate our growing programs. If you know of an available space in Grant, Hardy, or Pendleton county or would like to partner with us in this effort, we welcome your suggestions and support. info@stempactwv.org

".Being in Robotics with Mrs. Crites and Mrs. Adkins as coaches, has changed my life. Before joining I went to school because I had to, and only did enough to get by. After joining robotics I found my passion for STEM and met many amazing people who pushed me to be a better student and person. This year I graduated from high school at the top of my class and am preparing to attend the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology with a substantial scholarship. Joining robotics is without a doubt the best decision I ever made."

"Alicen Adkins and Bonnie Crites have had a profound impact on me both during and after my time on the JackBots robotics teams. Over the eight years I've been involved in robotics, they have consistently gone above and beyond-not just for me, but for the entire team.

Whether it was staying hours after practice to help troubleshoot code or repair parts on the robot, or offering guidance outside of robotics, their dedication has never wavered. They've written letters of recommendation for colleges, assisted with applications, and have been incredible mentors every step of the way.

Their support, encouragement, and unwavering belief in their students have made them two of the most influential people in my life. I'm incredibly grateful for everything they've done— not only to help me grow as a student and team member, but as a person.

A Personal Note About Us

Beyond STEM and robotics, our greatest joy is our families.

Bonnie is a wife and mom who loves supporting her musician husband as a sound engineer and spending time hiking the beautiful hills of West Virginia with her family.

Alicen is a wife and mom as well, who enjoys playing piano for her church, fishing with her husband and family, and making the most of the simple joys of mountain life.

Both of us are not only educators and coaches, but mothers who understand the hopes, dreams, and values of raising children in Appalachia.

Our faith, families, and community keep us grounded — and inspire us to pour that same care and commitment into the students and families we serve through STEMpact WV.
